You can post pictures and videos, you can send private messages, you can post things and only show them to certain people, or nobody but you.

There are some apps for this! On iOS I like Toot! by Dag Agren https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/toot/id1229021451?mt=8 but really ANY Mastodon client will work.
